17th January 2008 at 20.35 GMT La Mondiale completed her Transatlantic voyage in 33 days 7hrs & 30mins breaking her own record by two days!

Our 14 amazing oarsmen, every single one of them deserve praise second to none.  From the first stroke of their oars in the Ocean at Mogan, Gran Canaria to the last stroke at Port St Charles, Barbados, they pulled staunchly to achieve their goal and what a victory it is for them to have broken a Record held for 16 years.

Can 'Artemis Ocean Rowing 1'  new crew do even better on the 2nd Atlantic Ocean 'Trade Winds' Expedition 2008 ?

3 miles off finish

La Mondiale’ and her British & Irish crew have beaten the Transatlantic Rowing Record of 35 days, 7hrs & 30mins. This record was set in 1992 by a French crew rowing the same "La Mondiale". Although there have been over 60 attempts during the past sixteen years to do so, no rowing boat & crew have achieved this until now. The new record stands at 33 days,7hrs & 30mins

THE NEW RECORD IS 33 DAYS, 7HRS & 30MINS.

At the same time, La Mondiale won a unique challenge from multihull  ocean rowing boat 'Orca', of a Transatlantic Rowing Race between ‘La Mondiale' & ‘Orca’ of  an east to west crossing of the Atlantic from Gran Canaria to Barbados.

‘La Mondiale’ & ‘Orca’ raced across the ocean waves.

The extreme courage and tenacity was the test of the intrepid oarsmen of these two boats, not to mention the ability to work as a team and be able to tolerate each other within the confines of a rowboat.  This Race has determined which is the fastest boat across the Ocean.

It is the tried and tested design of ‘La Mondiale’  which has triumphed over the new technology of the smart, light but smaller multihull design of Orca - www.atlanticorca.com/race.htm
